Tasting Notes
This is our first ever 100% Source Syrah and it comes from the very best of three blocks at Copia's Estate. Block 3 is northeast- facing, head-trained and own-rooted clone Estrella. North-facing Block 6 is planted to clone 174 on fercal rootstock. Block 20 is alban clone on 1103P rootstock facing southwest. Dark fruits, baker’s chocolate, savory herbs and game meat abound. This combination of "cooler" and "warmer" exposures creates a beautifully layered complexity, tension and lengthy finish.
Winemaking
The wine rested for 19 months in 69% new French oak
Ratings
“The nose is lifted and vibrant, showing layers of dark cherries, mocha and dried herbs ... full-bodied and textured with firm tannins and chalky acidity ... notes of plums, charcuterie, black peppercorns and tapenade. Beautifully balanced and refined.” -94 pts | James Suckling
“Ripe black and blue fruits, ground black pepper, bouquet garni, and some gamey notes all emerge from the 2022 The Source, a rocking barrel sample based on 100% Syrah from the estate vineyard in the Willow Creek District in Paso Robles ... rich, full-bodied, has a good sense of freshness, and outstanding length.” -94-96 pts | Jeb Dunnuck
