Tasting Notes
2021 The Anchor is an exciting Mourvedre-driven wine and is born of 100% Copia Willow Creek Estate fruit. Mourvedre is a shining star at the Estate and features telltale savory and earthy notes on the nose and palate. The Anchor explodes with meatiness, dark fruit, herbs and black pepper. Complex and finishing long, this wine showcases the power of the Copia Estate vines.

Winemaking
Grapes were carefully berry and cluster sorted, 100% destemmed and fermented in stainless steel. After a cold maceration of 3 days, daily punch-downs, pump-overs and pneumotage were conducted.

Winemaker Comments
This is the very first harvest from Copia's Willow Creek Estate Vineyard, which, geographically speaking, backs into Terry Hogue's TH Estate Vineyard and L'Aventure's Arbor Road Vineyard. This harvest was very similar to becoming new parents, complete with dreams of perfection and lack of sleep. We are very happy with the quality of the fruit of this first harvest.

The Anchor is our very first Mourvèdre-dominant blend. At the Copia Estate, we have two Mourvèdre blocks of approximately 1.25 acres each. Right from the fermentation tank, I knew this was a special wine. As the name implies, our belief is that Mourvèdre acts as an "anchor" to the more fruit-forward Grenache and Syrah
blends. The Anchor speaks of earth and savoriness to me.

Ratings
95-97 pts - Jeb Dunnuck | "Its deep ruby/plum hue is followed by a rich, full-bodied, powerful red offering loads of ripe black cherry and blackberry fruit ... a stacked mid-palate, and building tannins. It's a killer bottle of Mourvedre that will benefit from a year or two in bottle."
