2020 The Story

Peake Ranch & Fulldraw

Often described as “Anita’s favorite,” The Story is one of the most graceful wines that Copia makes. Not to be confused as a capricious varietal, grenache is so changeable from its youth to maturity. It begins as a showy, plump vine hanger in the field, smells like rose petals in the tank (especially Peake Ranch) and surprises you with its backbone of tannin in barrel. Our grenache-driven wine straddles both spheres of its influence with rich, Central Coast fruit that is proud to wear the dust of the old world. 2020’s iteration is a perfect representation of what The Story is always about - soaring red fruit and lifted floral aromatics joined with baking spice. Raspberry dances off the rim of the glass with undertones of cinnamon, lavender, and tea leaf. As with all the wines, we hope you’ll cellar some of these for a couple of years or more - they will only get better with age.

 

Varietals were handpicked October 5-14, 2020 at the peak of flavor ripeness and phenolic maturity. Grapes were carefully cluster sorted, 100% destemmed and fermented in stainless steel. After a cold maceration, daily punch-downs, pump-overs and pneumotage were conducted. The wine rested for 20 months 40% new French oak.
